TechTalk: Toshi Omagari - Arcade Typography - Friday 1st April 2022
Description : *SOLD OUT!*
Join us at the Centre for Computing History for a talk on typography in arcade games.
Toshi Omagari is a typeface designer originally from Japan, but now living and working in London. Winner of numerous design awards, Mr Omagari has a passion for fonts and a particular appreciation for those found in arcade games. In 2019 Toshi released Arcade Game Typography, a book containing a curated collection of 250 fonts selected from an incredible amount of retro arcade and video games. The book highlighted the often overlooked nature of arcade typography and detailed the constraints and thought processes that guided its development. In this talk, Mr Omagari will be talking about his passion for fonts, his experiences in typography and exploring a largely unnoticed aspect of retro games: the lettering used with every "Insert Coin". The talk will begin at 7pm and last around 60 minutes, with the opportunity to ask questions afterwards.
