The Bandai RX-78 is a Japanese computer manufactured by Bandai. It was released in July 1983, the same month as the Nintendo Famicom. It employed a SHARP LH0080A (Z80A clone) CPU, which ran at a clock speed of 4.1 MHz, and shipped with 30 KB of RAM. Its 27-color display had a maximum resolution of 192×184 pixels, capable of displaying 30 x 23 text characters. The Bandai RX-78 was named after an anime series also owned by Bandai, in the hope the link would help sales. The computer cost 59,800 yen. 10 pieces of software were available, plus a BASIC interpreter cart. Much more recently, but still computing-related, Asus are selling Gundam-styled PCs and accessories.
