61015 Rank xerographic printer prototype

Description of Photograph

Photograph of an early experimental model of the Rank's xerographic printer, later the 'Xeronic' which was used on LEO III. It is shown here undergoing trials at the Rank works in Shepherd's Bush.

According to the printed caption on the reverse, probably text from a trade brochure:

This is the early experimental model which produced the first printing from a cathode ray tube by xerography in this country. It was the success of this model, which printed one figure (6) and one letter (E) which led to the development of the Xeronic. The production model Xeronic will print computer output at 3,000 lines a minute, 128 characters on a line, and in the same high quality printing operation will print its own forms to contain the information. The prototype prints 1,500 lines a minute.
