Marc Andreessen founds Netscape

On the 4th April 1994, Netscape Communications Corporation was founded by Marc Andreessen, Jim Clark and others. Originally using the name Mosaic Communications Corporation, the company name soon changed to Netscape, and launched the Navigator web browser in October of 1994.

Just 16 months later, in August 1995, Netscape floated on the stock market. On the first day of trading, the share price rocketed from $28 to $54 in the first few minutes of trading, valuing the company at $2 billion.
