Apple releases the Apple II
10th June 1977 On 10th June 1977, Apple began shipping the first complete Apple II systems. Motherboard-only versions started shipped the month before, on 10th May 1977. The Apple II was an 8-bit home computer, and is considered one of the first commercially successful, mass-produced computers. Apple II computers were based around a MOS Technology 6502 microprocessor running at 1 MHz. The Apple II came with the Integer BASIC programming language built in. An audio tape interface let you load programs and store data. At launch, prices ranged from $1298 with 4 kB of RAM up to $2638 with the maximum 48 kB of RAM. Related information: Image:
