The TI-2500 Datamath calculator was the first calculator produced by Texas Instruments after they had only produced and supplied parts for other manufactures up until this point. It was first announced in April 1972 with a suggested retail price of $149.95. The TI-2500 features an 8-digit LED display. It is powered by six rechargeable AA batteries, which provided four-six hours of operation life, or by an AC power supply. The batteries then took 14-16 hours of charging to restore them to full capacity. The TI-2500 featured the TMS0119 IC, which was part of TI's "calculator-on-a-chip" family, which incorporated all of the logic and memory circuits to perform complete 8-digit 3-register calculator functions, including full precision add, subtract, multiply, and divide operations. This example in our collection is the Texas Instruments TI-2500 / Datamath Version 1 and was made in Italy. The first version is identified by its 'CE/D' button which is used to clear the last entry or refresh the display as it turned off the display apart from the first digit after around 15 seconds. This calculator, together with a zip up soft cover, was kindly donated by Julian Bryant.
