Similar Objects is an investigatory program for upper primary and lower secondary school pupils. In it the unit cube is used to build a solid shape which can then be rotated, enlarged or partially erased. The plan view and elevations of the object can also be displayed. A simple colour-coding device helps the student to relate the shape seen to the correct face of the object. Two self-tests, on enlargement and reconstructing an object from its plans, increase the program's flexibility for classroom use. The pack has undergone extensive trials in both primary and secondary classrooms, and includes worksheets and teaching strategies designed by teachers. The program has applications in many parts of the mathematics curriculum, including visualisation in three dimentions; relationships between length, area and volume; and similar figures and ratio; it may also be used as an aid in craft, design and technology.
