The OU Micro 1 is a single board computer that was provided as part of the Open University course PT501 'Microprocessors and Product Development: A Course for Industry'.

Unit 3: Designing products incorporating a microprocessor

Unit 4: Aids to developing products incorporating a microprocessor

Unit 5: Some financial implications of using a microprocessor

Unit 6: Some personnel implications of using a microprocessor

The computer is based around an Intel 8049 CPU. The board is equipped with a 2-digit temperature display and the two sets of "traffic lights", which could be controlled by the CPU. An experiment book was provided as part of the course which allowed students to learn how to enter data and instructions into the microcomputer so that ultimately they would be able to program the system to work as a thermometer or as a controller for a set of model traffic lights.
