Mini Computer (Quite Literally) Joins the Museum

A uniquely different computer has been added the Computing History collection. This one is quite literally a mini-computer measuring only 6cm high. The computer originates from the film set of Independence Day !

Although not our usual type of exhibit, this item's provenance and individuality earns it a special place in the collection.

"A model miniature computer and keyboard used in the blockbuster movie Independence Day. These miniatures were used in the scenes when the blast from the Alien ship is destroying the city and the contents of an office is seen exploding away from the window. The computer and keyboard were made separately of resin and painted cream with details like the screen and the key on the keyboard painted separately. The monitor has some chips due to use on set. Measures 6cm (2.5”) high"

The Independence Day 'computer' and its accompanying certificate of authenticity have been very generously donated by Jay King, a keen collector of film memorabilia.

It's a great little item and we're proud to have it on show ...
