Orange Videophone

Orange Videophone

The orange videophone was a phone designed to perform video calls over GSM networking. Orange engineers created a custom video codec for encoding video data. It also had the ability to perform audio calls and general PDA functions. The problem was that videophone owners could only video call other videophone owners, which was unlikely as it had a price of £1300. It had a battery life that could sustain 1 hour of video calling, 6 hours of audio calling and PDA usage or 24 hours of standby.

We have tried and failed to extract the internal batteries for storage however we have failed. Please contact us with any information for servicing the orange videophone. admin@computinghistory.org.uk
