The 1500 Series was announced in 1987 and due to ship in January 1988. The GRiDCase 1500 series was aimed at field professionals for working in and out of the office. They were IBM AT-compatible and ran the MS-DOS operating system. Unlike the Compass range of laptops, the GRiDCase was battery operable, making them the first 286 and 386 battery-operated laptops. The GRiDCase 1500 Series was powered by either the 80C286 (Model 1520) or 80C386 (Model 1530) CPU, and came with 1Mb RAM as standard. It had two ROM slots, up to 512K capacity. This example in our collection has a single 3.5-inch floppy disk drive and hard disk. The 1500 Series was originally sold for $3,495 (Model 1520) or $4,695 (Model 1530).
