68438 Bob Day and Roy Johnston
Description of Photograph Digital copy of photograph 47 showing Bob Day, EEL showing printout from LEO III to Roy Johnston, President of Royal Johannesburgh Golf Club at the South African bureau. The photograph features a caption or newspaper clipping which reads as follows: Fifteen hundred cards are returned on average each month by the 800 members of the club and the handicaps, based on the new South African Gold Union handicapping system, are computed in less than eight minutes. The job formerly occupied 100-man-hours and a small amount of human error was unavoidable. A routine has now been established whereby changes to handicaps are posted on the club notice board a few days after the score cards have been mailed to bureau. Previously, several weeks elapsed before the figures were announced. Photograph shows Mr. Roy Johnston, President of Royal Johannesburg Golf Club (right) studying the computer - prepared handicaps with Mr. Bob Day, Bureau Manager, English Electric-Leo Computer Services (pty) Ltd."
