Mario Galaxy is the third entry in the series of 3D Mario games. Eschewing the usual land-based stages, Super Mario Galaxy was set in space, with levels and objectives taking place on small spherical worlds, satellites or other spacecraft. Being set in space, gravity had a large part in how Mario traversed the stages; with a well placed jump Mario is able to slingshot himself to other areas using the orbit of a small moon. The goal of each challenge is to retrieve Power Stars with 120 in total being available. Once all the stars have been collected, Luigi is available and another 120 stars can be collected. Super Mario Galaxy was heaped with praise from critics and would receive a sequel in 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2.
