The Sporting Life Settler was a calculator designed for betting shops, with development sponsored by the newspaper of the same name. It dates from around 1978. A number of calculators were designed around this time to perform complex calculations in order to determine and pay out the winnings of complicated bets on horse or greyhound races. The calculator is similar in looks to the Sinclair President, though is marginally larger. It is rarer than the President, as not that many were produced, and were more niche than the other calculators. Due to huge competition from Japanese manufacturers and their far more battery-efficient LCD machines, this and the President were manufactured by Radofin in Hong Kong to cut costs. By this time Sinclair were the only European manufacturer of calculators. This calculator was donated by Chris Wilding who is formerly of Sinclair Radionics and Sinclair Electronics.
