PicoStick: The Pico-Powered Arcade Joystick - Thursday 1st June 2023
Description : In the early days of video games, joysticks were the go-to way to play. Arcade machines, the Atari 2600 and the home micros all used joysticks. These days gamepads have taken over, but there are some games that just need the tactile click of a joystick and arcade buttons. This school holiday we're going to build, from scratch, an arcade-style eight button joystick running on a Raspberry Pi Pico. After the building, we will write a test program in Python before installing USB firmware that will allow you to use your controller on a wide range of computers and consoles. You will be able to use your controller on PCs, Raspberry Pis, even a Nintendo Switch. The session is aimed at children aged 10+. The fee is £40 per participant in this workshop. For participants under the age of 14, we require an accompanying adult to attend the workshop alongside them. Accompanying adult tickets can be purchased for the normal museum entry price of £10. Date: Wednesday 1st June 2023 This workshop will start at 11am promptly, so please arrive at least 15 minutes early. Please note: Whilst we'll make every effort to help ensure your PicoStick works, careful assembly is required and we cannot be held responsible for any non-working PicoSticks due to poor assembly.
Cancellations: We are unable to provide refunds for cancellations in the 14 days prior to the workshop. This is because we will have purchased the kits. However, you are still welcome to collect your kit from the museum during our normal opening hours. Remember - All proceeds go to support our Computing Museum! |
