Jeffrey Chuan Chu

Jeffrey Chuan Chu was a pioneering computer engineer.

Born in Tianjin, Republic of China, he later relocated to the USA to receive his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Minnesota and his Masters degree from the University of Pennsylvania.

He was part of the engineering team that designed the first American electronic computer, along with John Mauchly and J. Presper Eckert.

As a Senior Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, he helped design several improved versions of early large-scale computers such as AVIDAC and ORACLE.

The very first IEEE Computer Society Computer Pioneer Award was awarded to Jeffrey Chuan Chu in 1981.
