Heavy terminal that was formerly in Kimbolton School It would have originally been attached to an ICL1904s, which is a large mainframe system.

The 2255 is a Dumb Terminal, which would have dialed up to the mainframe. Punch cards were fed into the machine at a rate of 1000 a minute, using a 500 Watt bulb.

The machine was used to teach BASIC. There were usually two terminal per computer.
These computer  setups were the preserve of well funded education establishments, and were used up until the BBC Micro and the Research Machines came onto the education market.
