Build The Ultimate Retro Game Console! - Sunday 29th August 2021
Description : Have you ever seen those amazing setups where seemingly every game imaginable is available to you at the press of a button? Ever fancied making your own mini console or arcade machine? Heard of RetroPie but don't know where to start? Come to the Centre for Computing History for a step-by-step guide taking you from a collection of parts to having your very own ultimate emulation setup, capable of running a huge range of retro video games! The course includes all the parts needed to get you up and running (except an HDMI lead, as everyone has those kicking around anyway), and advice on where to go next with your new favourite toy. We'll be starting from zero, so you'll learn all about imaging SD cards, initial Raspi-config setup and getting your machine on the net running headlessly. Then we'll cover installing ROMs, themes and splashscreens, and advanced setup. If the above made little sense, then this is the workshop for you!! We will be supplying laptops to use throughout the workshop, but you are more than welcome to bring your own. You will walk away with a Raspberry Pi 3B+, Pi3 Case, Power Supply, USB controller and SD card worth £69!Already have a Raspberry Pi? Please note: We will be working with Public Domain software during the workshop. No illegal ROMs will be available, nor can we allow them to be downloaded on our network. Not just for Kids! The fee is £89 for workshop participants, whether an adult or a child. Accompanying adults are charged our standard entry fee of £9. Full access to the rest of the museum is included.
