Research Comments: This is the first part of an in-depth report by Thomas Raymond Thompson (TRT) and Oliver Standingford on their visit to the USA in May and June 1947. It was during this visit that they learned of the development of EDSAC in Cambridge, England! This first section is dedicated to 'Office Systems'. The authors report their pleasure in learning that Lyons' office development is on a par with the "more progressive American firms", even though they did not "find any firm which had developed on so broad a front as Lyons".
