Robert Dennard and IBM patent DRAM

4th June 1968 DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) was patented on June 4, 1968 by Dr. Robert Dennard and IBM. Each DRAM memory cell uses a single transistor and capacitor to store a single bit of data -- either a 1 or a 0. DRAM quickly became an instrumental technology in desktop computers, and even today DRAM is the most common type of RAM in use. Robert Dennard was presented with the National Medal of Technology in 1988, by President Ronald Reagan. Related information:
