Ada Lovelace meets Charles Babbage
5th June 1833 Ada Byron, later to be Countess Lovelace, first met Charles Babbage on June 5 1833 at a party. Ada, aged 17, was fascinated by Babbage, then a widower in his forties, who told her about his invention, the Difference Engine. A few days later, her mother Lady Byron took Ada to Babbage's home in Marylebone where he demonstrated a completed portion of the device.
