Alone in the Dark is a modern take on the survival horror PC game, more of a reboot than a sequel, it is technically the fifth game in the series. Gameplay is quite novel in that the player can play the game in episodes, so if they get stuck, they can go to another part of the game, which if not a continuation from the end of a previous level, will play a 'Previously on Alone in the Dark' cut scene plays. Cutting from 1st to third person views, weapons can be picked up and used on the undead, and also fires can be set, used to the players advantage and then extinguished if not out of control. Weapons can also be combined. The damage the character takes can be seen appearing on his clothes, and if not too serious can be treated with medical spray, if he is seriously hurt, the screen turns red and a heartbeat indicates that he is bleeding severely.
