Released to coincide with all the remastered Beatles albums coming to market, the game differs from other Rockband games, as there was now a three part harmony vocal built into the system. A Beatles hardware pack could also be bought, which contained drums, with the band livery on the bass drum, a replica of Paul McCartney's famous bass guitar, John Lennon's and George Harrison's guitars were also available. The game was developed with the full blessing of the recording company, with the surviving Beatles Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr both helping promote the release, George Harrison's son ,Dhani, bridged talks between the recording company and Harmonix, while Giles Martin, son of George Martin, ensured high quality versions of the songs would be available. Gameplay wise the game has a story mode, which does track the history of the band, and there are other features such as Beatlemania, where if a player is dropped out through poor performance, they can be saved by another band member performing a soecial task flawlessly. Although selling half a million copies in a month in the USA, the game was a disappointment to Activision who cited that the rhythm game sector was waning and the financial crash of the year before release had affected sales of the hardware packs.
