Durell Software produced some excellent titles for the Spectrum between 1983 and 1986. Critcal mass was another acclaimed title and involves infiltrating an alien stronghold, as they have taken over an anti matter power plant and want the unconditional surrender of the colonist planets it is powering. Failure to comply will result in the aliens allowing the plant to go into Critical Mass, creating a black hole which will wipe out all the colonies. The player has a skimmer craft with which to try and reach the Power Plant, and take out the various enemies along the way, if the craft is destroyed, the player can continue on foot, but this is slow and way more dangerous. Played in an isometric desert landscape, this is a fast passed arcade style game.
