Clive Sinclair introduces the first pocket calculator
August 1972 In August 1972, Clive Sinclair launches the Sinclair Executive calculator. Measuring just 56mm wide, by 138mm high, by 9mm deep, it was the world's first slimline pocket calculator. Costing £79.95 it is significantly cheaper than other pocket calculators of the day. It was based on Texas Instrument's TMS1802 "calculator-on-a-chip". The calculator was capable of addition, subtraction, division and multiplication, and was able to store a constant. Related information:
