Report by John Pinkerton on his visit to Cambridge of 22nd August 1952, when he met Maurice Wilkes and other members of the EDSAC team.

Research comments: refers to people Maurice Wilkes, Mr Phister, Mr Willis, Mr Barton (all presumed to be of the Mathematical Lab).

Refers to procedures for marginal testing, in particular to the need for a large number of test points. Also refers to experimental marginal testing procedures undertaken by Ferranti and also to a previous visit by Ernest Kaye (LEO engineer) to the Mathematical Lab to discuss marginal testing (see document). The procedure described by Kaye has since been amended because it was found to be "too cumbersome'.

A new type of magnetic tape-recorder is noted to be in development.

The document reports that Maurice Wilkes is proposing to introduce a Zero Test Order "directly equivalent to the one used in LEO"; this implies that modifications were made to the design of EDSAC as a result of work carried out on LEO. (LM)
