Transcript of a letter sent to John Simmons by Ernest Lenaerts, who was the engineer seconded from Lyons to the EDSAC project team at the Mathematical Laboratory in Cambridge (the plan discussed in the 'Electronics Machines' report of Nov 1947 - see CMLEO/DC/WF/EDS/1). He describes elements of his work at Cambridge and discussions with Maurice Wilkes. A draft by Lenaerts follows - of a technical description of The Half Adder, evidently a chapter (no 8) of a longer manual or other documentation, including a manuscript diagram of the Half Adder.
Research comments: the document identifies the need for "multichannel input and outputs" to create a commercial model of EDSAC, something that has not been addressed by Hartree and Wilkes at this point in time. Suggests that Creeds might be a manufacturer worth talking to on this front. Also refers to American company A.C. Nielsen who have the specification of an "electronic computor" that is "envisaged" by Raztheon (?Raytheon) Manufacturing Company. (LM)
