The Atanasoff-Berry Computer is completed

In 1942, John Atanasoff and Clifford Berry completed work on the Atanasoff-Berry Computer, the first electronic digital computer. They first conceived of this device in 1937.

The computer was the size of a desk and weighed 700 pounds. It contained over 300 vacuum tubes, and a mile of wire. The device took around 15 seconds to perform each calculation.
