Nixdorf PC 01 Portable
The Nixdorf PC-01 is a portable computer that weighs in at an impressive 15KG.
Nixforf Computer AG of Western Germany was based in Paderborn, initially very successful producing computers, IBM's PC took them by surprise, and they turned to badge-engineering to swell their ranks with PC-Compatible offerings. The PC-01 is, in actual fact, a Panasonic Senior Partner, a machine which was itself described as too little too late in the world of the PC. It has an inbuilt thermal printer which prints at 55 Characters a Second.
There are two floppy diskette drives installed. It also has a memory expansion card and a controller for an MFM hard disk drive .
The keyboard along with others of this type has the keyboard clipped on in front of the screen, which when opened is attached by a cable that is neatly kept in a port on the left hand side of the front, when unplugged, it retreats back into the case.
The machine asks for an MS DOS 2.11 disk on startup.
