Like its predecessor, the Z80-based MPF-1, the MPF-1/88 was designed to teach the fundamentals of microprocessors, microelectronics, and assembly languages. The MPF-1/88, which was based on the Intel 8088, was designed to teach people how to use 8088 microprocessor.

The computer from Multitech, now Acer, has a real keyboard and a two line by 20 character LCD display. It has a 4.77MHz 8088, 8k of RAM and 16K of ROM containing a monitor, assembler and disassembler.
