The HP 9830A was the top model in the first generation of HP's 9800 range. The systems in the range were first described as programmable calculators and later as desktop computers. The 9830A, despite being labelled as a calculator, contains a basic interpreter in ROM. Systems in this range can be seen as forerunners of desktop computers.
