This RM Nimbus AX/2 machine forms part of our working RM Nimbus Network. It is our primary server, and has a 12Mhz 80286 processor and 4 Mbytes of memory. It has a built in PVGA graphics chip. The CPU and memory are on a ISA expansion card, with only the FDD controller, parallel, serial, mouse and video controllers on the base board. This was to allow easy upgrade paths in the field as all the X series and X/2 series shared the same base board. The original X series machines had EGA graphics, whilst the X/2 series like this machine had PVGA graphics. The mouse connects via bus mouse port. It runs RM NET 3.1, and will remote boot both Nimbus PC186 and X/M series machines over the network. it has a 200 Megabyte hard drive fitted at present, and has the RM Net 3.1 Network Software Library installed, as well as windows 3.0 and a selection of third part software from SPA, ILECC, Kent County Council and various other educational software houses. It is fitted with a single ZNET network card which is set to run on its slower speed of 800kbps so that the 186 machines will boot from it. The fast mode is only supported by M and X series workstations. Manufacturer: Research Machines Comment on This Page RM Nimbus AX/2 Manuals:
