From the preface:

'This document is mainly aimed at PEL [Polytechnic of East London] students.  It is intended to give a brief introduction to the UNIX facilities available on the Computer Centre's Solbourne Computers.

Solbourne computers are a range of multi-user, general purpose machines which use the UNIX operating system.  An appendix has been included for those who may be interested in the technical details of the hardware and the particular brand of UNIX supported.

The two Solbourne machines currently administered by the Computer Centre are housed in the main computer room at Barking and can be accessed remotely from all PCs and other workstations connected to the central Ethernet network.'
