This manual provides information on an operating system used on computers shared jointly by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne and Durham University in the mid-1980s.

MTS (Michigan Terminal System) was 'the operating system which controls the use of NUMAC's [Northumbrian Universities Multiple Access Computer] two largest computers.'  The manual was intended as 'a teaching text, not a reference text, and was designed for 'those who, having little or no computing experience, attend an "Introduction to MTS" course' or 'those who, having substantial computing experience wish to learn about MTS.'

It provides technical insight into computing standards at both universities in the mid-1980s.
