This guide instructs the user in the use of the Teletext System for the BBC Micro. Teletext was a communications system that sent a range of text-based information, such as news and weather updates, to televisions (though also to computers with the requisite receiver equipment). Its function were largely taken over by the World Wide Web, and many broadcasters have now ceased broadcasting it, including the BBC in 2012. This edition of the guide was a provisional issue for tests only, rather than being a published copy. It was donated by Chris Turner, Chief Engineer at Acorn during development of the BBC Micro, and contains handwritten annotations. From the preface: 'This manual contains all the information necessary for using the BBC Microcomputer Teletext System. Whilst it is essentially an operating manual, the User Guide cotnains certain technical informaiotn which will help you to understand generally what Teletext is all about and gain some appreciation of the future potential offered by this system.'
