This Technical Guide for the 820 Information Processor was intended for in-house engineers in Xerox's Service Centres. It was published in April 1983. The document is an interesting example of literal 'cut-and-paste' publishing: several pages feature circuit diagrams that have been separately printed out and stuck into the manual. This was done because of a lack of desktop publishing software, with word processors not yet capable of including graphics. From the preface: 'This guide on the 820 Information Processor...is intended to assist the ASD Engineers in Service Centres increase their understanding of the operation of the 820 Hardware. In acheiving this objective, it is anticipated that repair of defective Processor PWB's will become economically viable with the minimum of Test Equipment. The guide assumes a prior understanding of Solid State Electronics and Fault Analysis techniques.' 74 pages. This document is kept in hard copy at the Centre and is available here for download.
