ADAM was the computer upgrade for the ColecoVision game console, a second-generation home video game console which was developed and released by Coleco Industries in North America in August 1982. The expansion module was released in October 1983, and gave the ColecoVision and its user the ability to play more games, use the SmartWRITER word processor software, balance budgets, and write software. The ADAM featured a Z80 CPU and had 80K RAM, 16K of which was VRAM. It featured a 256K digital data pack drive, with room for a second one which could be purchased separately. The ADAM came with the SmartWRITER printer, which could be used with the computer as an electronic typewriter or as a printer. The ADAM was not very successful, partly because of early production problems, and was discontinued in early 1985.
