3dfx acquired by Nvidia
2000 3dfx Interactive was a pioneer in the field of 3D graphics processing units from the late 1990s until 2000, when it initiated bankruptcy proceedings and sold its assets to Nvidia. Some employees remained to work under Nvidia, while others went to work for ATI. 3dfx's Scan-Line Interleave (SLI) technology was relaunched by Nvidia in 2004 as Scalable Link Interface (maintaining the acronym SLI), although the implementation was very different.
