The DE 523 Printer option interfaces the DE523 terminal with an Olivetti SV40B or SV160 serial printer. This printer bccomcs a normally selectable output device in any of the terminal output operations. Both formatted and unformatted printing are provided. Usually cassettes are involved in systems using the printer option; a cassette is normally used as the format device when the print format chaining technique is employed. This technique enables the arrangement for differing records on the same document as, for example, on an invoice where the head, lines in body, and tail have varied record structures, each requiring specific printing layouts. The Olivetti SV40C and other 'IPSO' printers may be connected to the DE523 system. Further information is contained in the manual "The DE 520 and 'IPSO' devices.
