The first ArcVenture game, it focusses on the Romans in Britain, and a particular real-life archaeological dig site in Woodchester near Stroud, Gloucestershire. Rather than dealing with information about rulers and battles, ArcVenture sought to introduce the ordinary people and culture of the time using archaeological artefacts to prompt discussion which lead to an adventure back in the time of the Romans in Britain. Players have 14 in-game days in which to excavate the site. They need to manage their energy carefully and choose the correct tools to excavate the area they selected on the map. Artefacts found can be reconstructed, and sometimes offer a glimpse into the past. When this occurs, the game transforms into an isometric adventure in which the player's character can meet and interact with Roman villagers and converse with them about their lives and the objects they've found.
