"The ability to record readings quickly and accurately from a wide range of measuring devices is a fundamental skill needed by all those taking experimental science courses. This program generates readings on a variety of measuring instruments chosen to provide examples of horizontal, vertical, and circular scales. There are seven devices to choose from: a thermometer, a measuring cylinder, a burette, an ammeter, a stop-watch, a vernier, and a micrometer screw gauge. Only one attempt at an answer is allowed - the computer will demonstrate how the right answer should have been obtained if the pupil's reading is wrong. This program can provide a much wider range of readings for the pupil to practise on than could actual instruments, which may be in short supply. It can also be used to demonstrate to the whole class exactly how to read the scales correctly. The teacher should find that it provides invaluable reinforcement for pupils aged 11 and above."
