Using QUEST will help you look at information, explore it, investigate it, doubt it, form links and make connections. The micro does the space work, flicking tirelessly, efficiently and quickly through those bits and pieces of information. This is 'information retrieval' or rather 'information handling'. There are four such collections of information provided with QUEST dealing with aircraft, horses, the weather throughout a school year and the young people of a Hertfordshire village 100 years ago. You can also use QUEST to make your own files. These can be simple and short or really sophisticated. Many computer programs present the children with a series of questions. "Do you want to go to the next example?" "Do you want to begin again?" The child's role is quite clear. The philosophy behind QUEST is different. The children pose the questions and issue the commands in whatever order seems most logical to them.
