The Microvitec TouchTech 501 is a device that can be mounted onto the front of a monitor, which then enables the monitor to function as a touch screen. it is designed specifically for the BBC Micro Cub monitor made by Microvitec. It creates an infrared grid over the display which detect the placement of a finger when it breaks the beam. It connects to a BBC Micro with an RS423 serial connection, and takes its power from the computers auxiliary connector. Before touch screens were as widespread as they are today, their primary use when they first produced was within specialist settings. Being paired with the BBC Micro, this particular one was especially used in schools to enable young people with additional needs to use educational software.
