Driver 2 Back on the Streets is an action driving game and sequel to 1999's Driver. The game builds on the formula of its predecessor with several innovations like allowing players to exit vehicles and explore the world on foot. Gameplay typically focuses on chasing or evading NPC-controlled vehicles or racing across the map against the clock. Some missions require the player to exit their vehicle to interact with switches and other objects. The game has a cinematic tone reminiscent of 1970s car chase films and police thrillers. The game’s story is told through high-quality cut scenes with licensed music from major artists like Kenny Rogers and Etta James. Driver 2 has multiple additional gameplay modes including “Take A Ride” which lets players freely roam the game’s large sandbox maps of Chicago, Havana, Las Vegas and Rio de Janeiro. Notably, this game mode includes a number of Easter Eggs and hidden vehicles and could even be played two-player via split screen. A port onto the Game Boy Advance was released in 2002.
