A.W. Faber "Castell" 360 slide rule, appears to be model S329. Patent No: 206408. Complete with leather case. A slide rule is a mechanical analogue computer which was one of the primary methods of calculation up until the mid-20th Century with the introduction of the desktop calculator and electronic computers. They were used for calculations including multiplication and division, as well as functions such as exponents, roots, logarithms, and trigonometry.
A.W. Faber, later A.W. Faber-Castell, was one of the leading manufacturers of slide rules. They began as pencil makers in 1761, expanding to slide rules in 1882. This slide rule in our collection was manufactured after they changed their name to A.W. Faber-Castell in 1913. Faber stopped manufacturing slide rules in 1976 due to the decline of the slide rule.
