The Bandai Datach Joint ROM System is a hardware add-on for the Nintendo Famicom, and was released in December 1992. The Datach unit slots into the Famicom's game cartridge slot, and has a slot for games cartridges and a barcode reader. Seven games were made for the add-on, including the Dragon Ball Z : Gekitō Tenkaichi Budokai game, which it came packaged with. The games cartridge slot is much smaller than the Famicom's and therefore the Datach games can only be used with the Joint ROM System inserted in the console. The barcode reader allows you to read the cards that came with the games. With the Dragon Ball Z game the character cards had to be swiped in order to select a character.
